"The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity. I will avow that I then believed, and now believe, that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God."

Aitken Bible
The Aitken Bible of 1782 was reviewed, approved and authorized by the US Congress. The bible was reviewed first for accuracy by the Congressional Chaplains White and Duffield and they reported on its accuracy. Robert Aitken's Bible was the first known English-language Bible to be printed in America, and also the only Bible to receive such Congressional approval. After appointing a committee to study the project, Congress acted on September 12, 1782, by "highly approving of the pious and laudable undertaking of Mr. Aitken." The endorsement by Congress was printed in the Aitken Bible... The endorsement was signed by Charles Thomson, who was Secretary of the Continental Congress. Thomson, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, is also famous for "Thomson's Bible," the first American translation of the Greek Septuagint, published in 1808 and for his Christian Inspired design of the current "Great Seal" of the United States adopted by Congress on June 20, 1782...(Thomson was an accomplished theologian: publishing such works as "A Regular History of the Conception, Birth, Doctrine, Miracles, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension of Jesus Christ.") |
"Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath?"
~Thomas Jefferson: Notes on Virginia Q.XVIII, 1782. ME 2:227
Today, we don’t have enough clergy with the knowledge and the spine to rebuke a Godless federal government. Many don’t know what the Bible says about civil government and they don’t know our Founding Principles and documents. Too many of our clergy just want to escape or withdraw from the World, avoid controversy, and preserve their 501 (c) (3) tax exemption.
