What authority does the Federal Government have to occupy land within a state?

ANSWER: Constitutionally, the Federal government may ONLY acquire land within a state for one of four purposes–forts, arsenals, dock-yards, and Federal buildings—and then ONLY after getting the consent of the State Legislature. There is NO authority for the Federal Government to occupy huge areas of land within a state for national forests, national parks, wilderness areas, wildlife refuge areas, etc. and then only after getting the consent of the State Legislature.
